A Texas SWAT team arrested a man after he allegedly shot at an SUV he believed to be driven by a stripper. The van turned out to be a newspaper delivery vehicle.

Round Rock, Texas, police officers dispatched a SWAT team to deal with a man who reportedly chased and eventually shot at an SUV driven by a newspaper courier. The officers engaged Mark Harley Ferguson, 41, in a five-hour standoff. SWAT officers eventually negotiated his surrender, KXAN NBC reported.

The newspaper deliveryman called the police to report a vehicle chasing him. The man said the driver chasing him eventually began shooting. He said the incident began when he was parked and a man, later identified as Ferguson, approached his van carrying a flashlight. As the man ran towards the vehicle, the newspaper deliveryman said he heard a gunshot which struck his SUV.

He quickly fled the scene and called the police.

An examination of the van by police investigators turned up a bullet hole in the vehicle and a bullet that fell into the bumper.

Police found the suspect by checking local calls for service. In checking the calls from homes in the area, police discovered Ferguson had a history of calling police reporting people living in his attic. Police said the suspect appeared to be depressed and delusional, the local NBC affiliate reported.

While on the phone with police, Ferguson said his home had been burglarized and he was hiding in the closet. Police said Ferguson eventually admitted he had chased the vehicle. The man denied having a gun or shooting at the SUV.

He said he chased the SUV because he believed the vehicle belonged to a stripper who worked at Rick’s Cabaret.

Ferguson is now in the Williamson County Correctional Facility charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
