A Texas district court judge in Galveston sentenced a man to 12 years in state prison for the repeated sexual assault of an elementary school-aged girl over a period of at least four years. The girl’s parents uncovered the crimes when they found a prayer note from her asking for God’s help in finding a way to talk to someone about the assaults.

Texas 405th District Court Judge Michelle Slaughter sentenced Ivan Brandy Martinez, 24, to two 12-year prison terms on charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child Under the Age of 14 and Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact. The two sentences will run concurrently, according to information obtained by Breitbart Texas from the Galveston County District Clerk’s Office. Martinez will be required to serve at least six years before being eligible for parole. He will also have to register as a sex offender for 10 years following the completion of his sentence.

Court records revealed Martinez to have been a juvenile at the time of the assaults which began in 2008. The assaults continued until at least 2012.

The indictment charged that Martinez knowingly caused the contact and/or penetration of the young girl’s sexual organ with “the defendant’s sexual organ.”

The victim’s family found a note written by the girl where she asked God to help her “tell someone about Martinez,” NewsFix reported. The parents talked to their daughter and learned the note had been written about a year earlier. She told her parents that Martinez sexually assaulted her multiple times “by touching her private areas and other sexual acts.”

Following his initial arrest in 2015, Martinez eventually pleaded guilty to the two charges.

During the period between his arrest in Galveston County and his conviction, Rosenberg police in neighboring Fort Bend County, where Martinez lived, arrested the man and charged him with one count of Aggravated Sexual Assault with a Minor and two counts of indecency with a child. The Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office dismissed the charges after Martinez’s conviction in Galveston County.
