The move by the State of California to provide statewide sanctuary to illegal aliens is dangerous and reckless, says the National Sheriffs Association. The law signed by Governor Jerry Brown blocks police from inquiring about the immigration status of suspects or from assisting federal immigration officers in the performance of their duties.

National Sheriffs Association CEO and Executive Director Jonathan Thompson said the new law handcuffs police and endangers the public, CNS News reported on Monday. “Americas Sheriffs are saddened and disappointed that Governor Brown signed this reckless bill into law,” Thompson said in a written statement. He said the new law made “political pawns” out of police officers.

“It is unfortunate that California’s law enforcement has become pawns in this political game,” Thompson wrote, “but they will continue to do their jobs diligently to protect their communities.”

California Governor Jerry Brown delivered the gold to illegal aliens by making the entire state a sanctuary. Brown signed SB54, the “California Values Act” into law last week making it illegal, after January 1, 2018, for a local law enforcement officer to ask about a person’s immigration status during the course of routine interactions with the public, Breitbart News’ Michelle Moons reported.  The law also prohibits law enforcement officials from complying with ICE issued immigration detainers.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement acting-Director Tom Homan wasted no time in responding to the renegade state.

“ICE will have no choice but to conduct at-large arrests in local neighborhoods and at worksites, which will inevitably result in additional collateral arrests, instead of focusing on arrests at jails and prisons where transfers are safer for ICE officers and the community,” acting ICE Director Tom Homan Breitbart Texas reported. “ICE will also likely have to detain individuals arrested in California in detention facilities outside of the state, far from any family they may have in California.”

“Ultimately, SB54 helps shield removable aliens from immigration enforcement and creates another magnet for more illegal immigration, all at the expense of the safety and security of the very people it purports to protect,” Homan stated.

National Sheriffs Association’s Thompson concluded, “We also implore leaders in Washington to take action and pass sensible legislation that would prevent careless legislation from hamstringing law enforcement and would give them the tools to combat dangerous policies like this.”
