Border Patrol agents arrested a Mexican national previously deported for a rape conviction in a California county with sanctuary policies.

Agents assigned to the Tucson Sector discovered a man in the desert near Sasabe, Arizona, on Saturday afternoon. The man illegally crossed the border. After arresting the man, agents took him to the Tucson Station for processing. During a records investigation, agents determined the identity of the man to be Juan Sotelo-Carasco, a 40-year-old Mexican national, according to a statement obtained by Breitbart Texas from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials. Further checking revealed that a court in Contra Costa County, California, convicted Cotelo-Carasco in 2016 for rape. Immigration officials subsequently deported the man.

Contra Costa County is listed by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) as a sanctuary county.

He now faces new criminal charges for felony criminal immigration violations.

Further west along the border, agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested another previously deported sex offender on Friday morning.

Agents working near Calexico observed a man who had illegally crossed the border from Mexico about 22 miles west of the port of entry. Agents arrested the man and took him to the Calexico Station for processing.

A records check revealed the 44-year-old Mexican national “had a previous notice to appear from San Jose, CA for lewd acts with a child under 14.”

San Jose, California, is located in Santa Clara County which is also listed as a county with sanctuary policies by CIS.

Later that afternoon, agents observed another man who had illegal crossed the border about 11 miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry. The agents arrested the man and took him to the station for processing. During a background check, agents determine the 24-year-old Honduran national has a previous history of an affiliation with the MS-13 gang.

Both of the men arrested near Calexico are being processed for removal to their countries of origin, officials stated.
