An apparent serial dog-killer is on the loose in a Conroe, Texas, neighborhood. The owners of eight pets in the Deer Trail neighborhood in Montgomery County say their dogs have been shot and killed.
“It’s been devastating, just the fact that knowing we live in a world where somebody would actually shoot somebody’s pet somebody’s lab, somebody’s family,” Cass Coroiescu told Fox 26 News in Houston. Beau was his good friend and his hunting dog.
“We saw some buzzards about 300 yards from our house on the pipeline, so we walked back in there, and that’s where we found her where the buzzards were,” the devastated dog owner said. “At first I didn’t want to believe it. The closer I got, the better I could see her pink collar on her, the bright pink collar and name tag, and we just lost it.”
The killer shot his 13-year-old brown Labrador with a .22 caliber firearm, KHOU CBS11 reported.
Coroiescu is offering a $5,000 reward for information that helps authorities find Beau’s killer. “Money is just money. It’s nothing compared to stopping who did this,” he explained.
News outlets in the Houston area are reporting that at least eight dogs have been shot. The local CBS affiliate reported that Coroiescu’s Labrador was the latest dog to be killed in the Deer Trail neighborhood.
A neighbor who lives near where Beau was found told the Houston CBS affiliate, “Yeah, we have to keep an eye on him.” “He’s the last one we have. It’s still hard to talk about Molly because Molly was just a really special dog.” The neighbor who wants to remain unidentified said the dog-killer shot and killed two of her schnauzers.
“This is not a video game. If you shoot something, it doesn’t come back,” Coroiescu told the KHOU11 reporter. “Whomever did this is a sick human being, and can’t be mentally stable. And who knows what he’ll do next.”
Breitbart Texas has reported that child abuse and elder abuse and neglect have been demonstrated to be correlates of animal cruelty. Former prosecutor and associate judge Lana Shadwick noted that a guidebook for Criminal Justice professionals entitled, “The Link between Violence to Animals and People” reveals that there is a correlation between violence perpetrated on animals and violent acts against people.
The 71-page treatise states that domestic violence programs are now asking about pets and providing shelter for at-risk families and their pets. Moreover, child protective services workers, adult protective services workers, and animal control officers are linking their observations when performing home visits. They “know that where animals are at risk, people often are at risk and vice versa,” the treatise says.
In 2016, Baylor University suspended a football player for three games after a graphic video was made public showing him beating and kicking a yelping dog. Breitbart Texas reported that a fellow player had videotaped the assault and posted it on social media.
In November, Breitbart Texas reported that Devin Patrick Kelly, the gunman who shot and killed 26 people in a small town church, had a history of cruelty to animals. Prosecutors in El Paso County, Colorado, charged him with cruelty to animals after he beat a puppy with his fists just three years before his infamous shooting rampage.
Alleged Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz is also reported to have a history of violence against animals and abuse of the elderly, Breitbart News reported.
