REYNOSA, Tamaulipas — The raging cartel war that continues to take place in the Mexican border cities south of the Rio Grande Valley is causing a dramatic spike in carjackings and armed robberies where teams of gunmen are actively roaming the streets for valuable SUVs. At least 10 incidents reportedly occur each day.
Surveillance video from a gas station in Rio Bravo reveals the moment where cartel gunmen pull up to an unsuspecting family. An attacker rushes the vehicle and is seen ordering the family out before driving off. The robbery took place last week.
Another surveillance video recorded outside a home in Reynosa depicts the moment when cartel gunmen tried to take an SUV from a resident pulling up to his garage. The carjacking failed when the vehicle owner rammed the cartel gunmen in an attempt to defend himself. The gunmen ran back to their vehicle and fled.
The ongoing fighting between rival factions of the Gulf Cartel caused a large demand for vehicles to move teams of gunmen. Known as “estacas,” the teams usually ride three to six at a time in stolen SUVs as part of large convoys that roll down roads, spraying gunfire. The need for SUVs pushed the number of carjackings to an average of 10 a day in Reynosa alone, law enforcement sources revealed to Breitbart Texas.
