Border Patrol agents assigned to the Laredo West Border Patrol Station rescued a migrant abandoned by human smugglers without water for two days. Agents treated them for dehydration and transported him to a hospital for medical attention.

An illegal immigrant called for assistance via 911 on Wednesday. He claimed to be lost on a ranch near Laredo, Texas. The illegal immigrant said he had been without food or water for two days, according to Laredo Sector officials.

Agents from the Laredo West Station, the Laredo Response Unit, BORSTAR agents, and a National Guard air unit responded to the call and located the lost migrant. BORSTAR agents are trained in emergency medical care and provided assistance to the dehydrated man.

In the five preceding days, Laredo Sector agents rescued 23 additional migrants in 11 separate events, officials said. The rescues were carried out by agents assigned to the Freer, Hebbronville, Laredo North, Laredo West, and Zapata Border Patrol Stations. The agents also received assistance from the Laredo Sector Special Operations Detachment and the National Guard.

“These events illustrate how the men and women of the United States Border Patrol not only serve to protect our borders, but are also committed to the preservation of life and assist anyone in need,” Assistant Chief Patrol Agent Gabriel H. Acosta said in a written statement obtained by Breitbart Texas.

Agents carried out the rescue missions as part of the ongoing Border Safety Initiative aimed at reducing the number of migrant deaths along the border and increasing the apprehension of illegal immigrants. The programs is “a humanitarian, bi-national strategy designed to reduce illegal alien deaths, educate and inform potential illegal aliens of the dangers and hazards of crossing the border illegally, and to respond to those who are in life-threatening situations.” officials stated.
