Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents rescued an exhausted mother and her two young daughters who were being marched through the brush after illegally crossing from Mexico.

Zapata Station agents received information about a suspected illegal border crossing near Falcon Lake in South Texas on August 30. Dispatchers sent agents to the area to conduct a search operation for the suspected illegal immigrants. Agents found footprints indicating a group recently moved through the area and began a search, according to Laredo Sector officials.

The agents tracked the group for about two miles before catching up. The agents found about eight migrants in the group–including a woman traveling with two very young children.

As the agents directed the group out of the brush, one of the agents observed the woman carrying her three-year-old daughter was having a difficult time keeping up. She told the agent she was fatigued and could no longer carry her child. One of the Zapata Station agents carried the sleeping child the remaining half-mile out of the brush, officials stated.

Had the agents not found the group, it is likely that the smugglers would have abandoned the mother and children to keep a preferred pace.
The agents checked all of the migrants’ conditions and determined they were all in good health before processing the immigration violations.

Laredo Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Jason Owens told Breitbart Texas in a previous interview that these smuggling activities put young children in danger. He said smugglers will frequently abandon any who cannot keep up with the group.

Temperatures in the area on August 30 ranged from the low 70s to a high of 102 degrees.
