February 12, 2009 (Sichuan, China) — A wild panda trapped in western China’s Sichuan province was rescued by Local farmers recently, China’s state media CCTV reported on Thursday.
The panda was found trapped in rocks in the countryside of Ya’an city, Sichuan province, and the back leg of the panda was entwined by vines in a mountainous area, CCTV said.
Some 30 local farmers rescued the wild panda from rocks after a two hour rescue, said CCTV.
The panda was set free back to the wild after simple treatment, the tv station reported.

This is the second time local farmers have seen wild pandas in this area since 2005, according to CCTV. It’s estimated that only about 1,600 pandas live in the wild, mostly in western China’s Sichuan province.
