AP: President Barack Obama on Friday signed a directive to restart Bush-era military tribunals for a small number of Guantanamo detainees, reviving a fiercely disputed trial system he once denounced but with new legal protections for terrorism suspects.
In a statement issued by the White House, Obama said his approach is “the best way to protect our country while upholding our deeply held values.”
