Acts of Terror Help Define the Decade

AFP: Our memory of the decade now drawing to an end will be overshadowed by the spectre of terrorism, from the fall of the Twin Towers in 2001 to the unending fight against the Al-Qaeda network. The war in Afghanistan aimed to wipe Qaeda’s haven from the map, but has also sparked a global resistance and splinter terror groups operating from Asia to Africa, and in the West. The anti-terror fight has also brought about major changes on the domestic front in the United States, Britain and other countries that have borne the brunt of attacks. For rights groups, the focus on security has come at a heavy cost to ordinary citizens and worldwide harmony.
