Rep. Jackson-Lee Calls for Airport Audit

U.S. REP. SHEILA JACKSON LEE: Where should we go from here? I intend to write legislation that will make America better prepared to fight terrorists’ attacks. I will introduce legislation to ensure that America has enhanced technology to develop sophisticated passenger-screening systems. The Homeland Security Department also needs the authority and funding to assess the behavior of suspected terrorists. There must be a system that allows persons with suspected terrorist behavior to be moved expeditiously from watch lists to no-fly lists. That is one way to save lives. I will request more funds for behavioral assessment of suspected terrorists that is not stigmatizing, racial profiling or profiling on the basis of national origin or religious background, which I oppose. A behavioral assessment strategy would have helped us avoid the tragic incident at Fort Hood. Additionally, I will introduce legislation to increase the number of air marshals on most, or all, international flights coming to the United States.
