Newt Gingrich described the Democratic Party as “The Party of Food Stamps.” Speaker of the House Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) accused Gingrich of sending “a subliminal message” to voters. Chris Matthews took up Pelosi’s cause and also accused former President Reagan of doing the same thing thirty years ago.
What is more racially divisive, calling the Democratic Party the “Party of Food Stamps”, or jumping to the conclusion that this statement has a racial component?
