Romney: Santorum Not Vetted Enough, Not Fiscal Conservative

Campaigning in Michigan, Gov. Mitt Romney claimed that Sen. Rick Santorum has not been “as carefully viewed by the public as have the others.” “His background and mine are very different,” pointing out Santorum’s votes to raise the debt ceiling five times without compensating reductions in spending, his background as a lobbyist, his senate loss, his defense of earmarks, including one for the $500,000 earmark for the Pittsburgh zoo for a polar bear exhibit. Said Romney, “Rick Santorum’s track record is not one of a fiscal conservative.”
