Christie Praises Obama; Affirms Support For Romney

Associated Press – New Jersey’s Republican Gov. Chris Christie says President Barack Obama deserves praise for helping his state recover from Superstorm Sandy but he is still going to vote for Mitt Romney.

Christie, speaking Sunday in New Jersey to a reporter from Israel’s Channel 2 TV, dismissed critics on the right who have accused him of supporting Obama.

He says that as a Republican he has endorsed Romney and intends to vote for him in Tuesday’s election. But Christie adds that if the president comes to New Jersey to help his people and does it, “then I’m going to say nice things about him because he’s earned it.”

Christie, a leading Romney surrogate, delivered the keynote speech at the Republican National Convention. Last week, he toured New Jersey’s battered shore with Obama and discussed recovery assistance.
