Senator Exposes Waste, Lack Of Transparency In USDA Food Stamp Program

Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) made a speech on the Senate floor today detailing his exchanging letters with the USDA head Secretary Vilsak. Sessions revealed to the Senate that after the Senator raised concerns about some of the efficiency and spending problems in the food stamp SNAP program the USDA became uncooperative and stopped giving required information to the Senator and his staff. Sessions threatened that he will use “the resources” available to him to get the information he required. Some of the more startling discoveries in the investigation shows that federal government spends $60,000 a year on each family who is on welfare programs and that the USDA has a campaign to actively convince people to go on food stamps, even though they deny participation in the program.
