A White House press pool reporter challenged Spokesman Jay Carney on Tuesday about President Obama’s unprecedented prosecutions of leaks in his administration. The reporter asserted that the President has prosecuted double the number of leakers to the press than all previous administrations combined and asked if these actions were consistent with Carney’s talking points that the President is committed to an “unfettered” press. Carney refused to acknowledge any prosecutorial statistic but said that national security concerns are primarily the reasons for prosecutions and that the President is committed to an open press.
