Obama: U.N. Approval Not Necessary, Sending To Congress

President Obama announced that he is willing to take military action against the Assad regime in Syria on Saturday but that he is seeking Congressional approval to do it. “I’m confident in the case our government has made without waiting for U.N inspectors,” Obama said. “I’m comfortable with going forward without a United Nation’s Security Counsel that has so far been completely paralyzed and unwilling to hold Assad accountable.” The President said that Congressional leaders have agreed to schedule a debate and a vote when Congress comes back in session. Obama said he didn’t “believe” that he needed Congress’ approval to act in Syria but that he is seeking it anyway because he is aware that he is “the President of the world’s oldest constitutional democracy.”
