First Grader Kicked Out Of School For Diabetes

One school told parents that because of budget cuts, their daughter with Type 1 diabetes can no longer attend class. The first grader needs help monitoring her blood sugar throughout the day and a nurse is now only on-site twice a week. The child’s mother asked the school if she could takeover care and monitoring on school premises the days the nurse was not on-site. “That’s not allowed,” she was told and described school authorities as “cold.”
