Gingrich: Boehner Happy To Let Media Attack Cruz

Nicole Raz WMAL.com WASHINGTON– John Boehner (R-Ohio) has been taking some heat for not being able to control the members of his own party amid the government shutdown blowup. But in an interview with WMAL’s Mornings On The Mall, Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) said Boehner is probably grateful that Ted Cruz (R-TX) has captured the attention from the news media. “I think he’s quite happy to have the news media attack Ted Cruz instead of attacking him,” Gingrich said. Even though Cruz is the target of the news media, Gingrich said he will come out of the negative headlines politically ahead. “This is a freshman senator who is emerging about as fast as Barack Obama did when he was a freshman senator,” Gingrich said. “I think Cruz will be a very formidable player.” Cruz has clearly made it his goal to become the leader of the conservative wing of the Republican Party, and Newt said he is positioning himself very well.
