Ice Snarls The South; Hundreds Stranded In Atlanta

ATLANTA (AP) — Authorities in Georgia are still working to get food, water, gas and blankets to people who’ve been stranded in their cars since yesterday afternoon’s winter storm. Police and National Guard troops, meanwhile, are working to escort home the children who were stuck overnight at their schools. Hundreds more spent the night on school buses. It’s not clear just when all of the stranded vehicles will be off the roads in the Atlanta area. Temperatures aren’t expected to be above freezing for very long, so the roads might not have a chance to thaw. Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal put some of the blame for the problems on forecasters.
