Charlie Crist Defines 'Pro-Life' as Not Being Against Abortion

Despite his prior statements on abortion, including his declaring he would sign an abortion ban if such legislation had arrived at his desk, Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist, a former Republican governor of the state, told West Palm Beach, FL NBC affiliate WPTV’s “To the Point” he was pro-life in his own way, meaning he did not think it was the government’s role to “tell a woman what to do with her body.”

“I am pro-life and what I mean by that is I’m for life,” Crist said. “I think most of us are for life. And I think that’s very important to state because even though I am pro-life, which I mean I am for life doesn’t mean I want to tell a woman what to do with her body and I never have.”

“Even as a Republican governor, I vetoed the ultrasound bill on women,” he continued. “So, you know, I’m the kind of guy being raised with three sisters that understands these are very personal decisions that woman ought to be able to make on their own and certainly not have their government injection into the issue.”
