On WPLG’s “This Week in South Florida,” host Michael Putney confronted former Republican governor and current Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist on claims that despite a long career which included being hired out of law school as general counsel to Minor League Baseball, a state senator, Florida’s attorney general and the 44th Governor of Florida, but has lived “paycheck to paycheck” for most of his life.
Crist said, “I think that Floridians are aware of that now and they want a more ethical governor. Somebody who is more like them. who is like i have most of my life lived paycheck to paycheck and I don’t fly around in a private jet.”
Putney fired back, “Look, from time to time you have because you have some wealthy friends, you do fly around in private jets. And sometimes they send a big town car or a limo for you. Shortly after you appeared on my friend Jim Defiti’s show a few years ago and said ‘I live paycheck to paycheck’ they sent out a photograph of you arriving in a big white stretch limo at an event someplace. So you know, you do fly in private jet, don’t you? I mean you do ride in fancy cars.”
