Gingrich: Being 'Out of Touch' Killed Cantor

Former Speaker of the House and “Crossfire” co-host Newt Gingrich stated that Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) lost his primary campaign to Dave Brat because he was “out of touch.” Gingrich said that the result in Virginia was massive, declaring “I think this is about a scale eight earthquake. I think it will shock the Washington establishment and will shock the House Republicans. It certainly upsets all of the balance of power inside the Republican conference.”

He argued that the defeat of Cantor ill-fated campaign “is a classic mistake of the Washington consulting class which I frankly am deeply hostile to, they managed to convince Eric to run negative ads against a man who was totally unknown.” He concluded that Cantor’s defeat was a result off an elected official who was “out of touch, not paying attention and then having your consultants do two or three really stupid things. Anytime you can out-spend somebody by 17-to-1 and lose, you have to assume there was something flawed about your campaign.”
