Dem Rep: What Would be the Point of an Obama Border Visit?

Monday on MSNBC’s “NewsNation,”  Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) asked, “What would be the point in the president going?” with regards to a trip to the border during his trip to Texas to attend a fundraiser later this week.

Host Kristen Welker answered the congresswoman’s question by saying, “Well to see firsthand this crisis right now that so many people are talking about and is impacting thousands of children.”

“I think that he has people in place to take care of that situation. There have been leaders from all over the Congress to visit the border. The Homeland Security secretary has been there,” she replied. “[I]f he chooses to go, I think it is fine, but I don’t think he needs to go to get information. Information is readily available.”

President Barack Obama is attending two campaign events in Texas this week. First on Wednesday the president will be at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraiser in Dallas. On Thursday, he is giving a speech at  Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Austin. Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) has challenged Obama to come to the border and tour the facilities during his Texas visit.
