McCain: If Russians Shot Down Plane, It Will Have 'Profound Repercussion'

In an appearance Thursday on CNN, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) reacted to the news that a Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was hit by a surface-to-air missile and having crashed killing all 295 passengers near the Russian-Ukraine border. McCain said “if it was a missile that was launched either by Russia or the, quote, separatists, which in my view are indivisible, this would have the most profound repercussions.”

The senior Arizona senator added, “It would open the gates for our assisting finally the Ukrainians, giving them some defensive weapons. The sanctions that would be imposed as a result of that, that would just be the beginning.”
