In a report that aired on CNN on Tuesday morning, network correspondent Jean Casarez explained how ISIS is implementing an aggressive social media campaign tied with other freebies to recruit westerners for its efforts.
“Guns and money, if this wasn’t so serious we could laugh, but this is a business, and [Abu Bakr] al-Baghdadi, their leader, is very charismatic — he’s organized, elusive, they watch him,” Casarez said. “But what it all comes down to is recruitment.”
“Word it getting out because of an aggressive social media campaign which includes Twitter, Facebook, and an online magazine, much of it in English,” she added.
Also, Casarez reported women are a recruiting target for ISIS, especially from a younger generation.
“The generation is probably between as young as 15 people are going to about 25,” Richard Barrett of The Soufan Group said.
