Wednesday at the White House press briefing, press secretary Josh Earnest was asked about a Breitbart report that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) is hinting at a government shutdown if President Barack Obama takes unilateral action on immigration.
Earnest seemed giddy at the suggestion the Republicans might counter Obama’s executive order, which will reportedly grant amnesty to over 5 million illegal immigrants currently living in the United States by “using funding mechanisms,” as Rubio suggested.
Earnest said he hoped the GOP would not resort to a shutdown tactic saying. “It would be a real shame.” However, he added it would have no impact on the president’s decision.
