Thursday, at a panel discussion on U.S. counterterrorism efforts, the former Central Intelligence Agency Acting Director under President Barack Obama, Mike Morell, said both ISIS and al Qaeda are capable of carrying out a 9/11-style terrorist attack tomorrow.
Morell said there was “no credible information on September 10, 2001 that al Qaeda was going to hit us,” he added the threat from ISIS is “them directing an American citizen, or a Canadian, or a West European to come here and conduct a small scale attack. That could happen tomorrow.”
The former CIA director said al Qaeda in Yemen “could bring down an airliner tomorrow in the United States. They have that capability.”
