Engel: 'Tone-Deaf' Kerry Ignoring Social Media Symbolism of Kobani's Fall to ISIS

Thursday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” NBC News chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel said, “Secretary Kerry is being tone deaf to the importance that Kobani has taken on in social media.”

When Mitchell asked about Kerry saying Kobani is not a strategic priority Engel said, “The situation in Kobani from the global perspective may not be the most important city in the world. There other key cities in Syria, but it has become an important symbol and highly visible and perhaps Secretary Kerry is being tone deaf to the importance that Kobani has taken here in this country and on social media.”

“People are watching the city fall almost in realtime and troops are sitting a few helped yards away doing nothing. They had cannons pointed at Kobani and they are not firing,” he added.
