Buchanan: China ‘Eclipsing’ US as ‘First Military and Economic Power’

Columnist and author Pat Buchanan argued that China is “eclipsing” the United States as “the first military and economic power on earth” on this weekend’s broadcast of “The McLaughlin Group.”

Buchanan said President Barack Obama accomplished “little or nothing,” at a recent summit with China, adding “this was a huge triumph for the Chinese, John. You’ve got $85 billion in American exports to china. They run a $300 billion surplus at our expense every year. They’ve got $4 trillion in foreign currency reserves. They’re building a Greater Asia co-prosperity sphere, I mean, like Napoleon tried to do in Europe. They’re trying to bring all those countries under their control.  They use their investment and aide to get tangible and hard gains for them. The Chinese are really doing to the United States in this century and at the end of the last century what the United States did to Great Britain at the end of the 19th century, basically eclipsing them and moving them out as the first military and economic power on earth.”
