Buchanan: Obama’s Amnesty ‘Beginning of a Bonanza for Big Gov’t’

Friday on Fox News Channel’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto,” conservative commentator Pat Buchanan said the implementation of President Barack Obama’s executive decree granting amnesty to upward of 5 million illegal immigrants already living in the United States is the “beginning of a bonanza for big government.”

“I think we are just at the beginning of a bonanza for big government,” Buchanan said. “A thousand employees at $50 million. Let me tell you how many people they’re dealing with. They’re dealing with 5 million undocumented immigrants or illegal aliens. That is the entire population combined of North Dakota, South Dakota, Alaska, Vermont, Delaware, and one other state that I can’t think of. Six states. Do you really think that 1,000 people can take these 5 million, investigate them, provide them each with social security, work permits, photo IDs? This is the beginning of a very, very large government program.”

He added, ‘They [Republicans] can deny the president the funds to the Department of Homeland Security in February. Deny him any funds to proceed with this program. The problem is what happens if the president vetoes it? Are they willing to go to the wall with the president of the United States on this? Because a lot of Republicans diddle behind the scenes, candidly, the corporate Republicans, would just as soon get this off the table and behind them. It’s done. So it’s going to have to be a collision both inside the Republican caucuses and the House and Senate, and with the president of the United States.”
