Wolf Blitzer Blames GOP for Failure of Bill Majority of Dems Voted Against

On Friday’s “Situation Room,” CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer characterized the failure of a resolution to fund the Department of Homeland Security for three weeks as the Republicans “failing to break the deadlock over funding the Department of Homeland Security,” despite the fact that the majority of the votes against the resolution came from Democrats.

“How will the Department of Homeland Security protect Americans from a terror threat, which is growing daily, if congress cannot find a way to pay those workers whose job is — supposed to keep all of us safe? Looks like Republicans are moments away from failing to break the deadlock over funding the Department of Homeland Security. House Democrats joined by 50 Republicans, voted to block an effort to keep the money flowing for another three weeks” he stated.

At the time of his comments, 50 Republicans had voted against the short-term funding measure, compared to 172 Democrats. On the “Yea” side, there were 191 Republicans and 12 Democrats.

In the final vote tally, 173 of the 224 votes against the resolution came from Democrats.
