Watch: SNL Takes On March Madness

NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” took on the media coverage and participants in March Madness in their opening sketch.

The sketch begins with commentator Charles Barkley admitting he doesn’t really like college basketball, but quickly turns to the teams as Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski reports that star player Jahlil Okafor will not play in the upcoming championship game because he has a big biology test coming up and will be studying in the Buffalo Wild Wings Study Tent because, after all, college basketball players are students first and “we’d all look pretty silly” if players only went to college to play basketball and “college is the most important year of your life,” and the team will start a 36 year-old grad student walk-on.

Commentator Kenny Smith agrees with Coach K’s decision because if Okafor doesn’t study “he will just have to spend time, the rest of his life as a millionaire in the NBA. That’s a tragedy,” and that he didn’t want to be the only player in NBA who didn’t know Emily Dickinson’s poetry. Barkley adds that one time he kept missing free throws in a game because he was so concerned about a science project, although the project was making a volcano erupt with baking soda.
