During Thursday’s “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” on ESPNU, ESPN sportswriter Jason Whitlock appeared as a guest with host Colin Cowherd to speak about the situation in Baltimore with the riots.
According to Whitlock, the hopelessness felt in Baltimore is a byproduct of mass-incarceration.
“This is a byproduct of mass incarceration and America’s decision to prosecute a drug war and over incarcerate a lot of people. So they’ve imposed a lot of hopelessness and a lack of direction on a lot of people.”
He later added, “I look at this generation, the family structure has broken down and, you know, partially or tremendously the problem is accentuated mass incarceration. The family structure is broken down and there’s no hope.
