Monday on Fox News Channel’s “On the Record With Greta Van Susteren,” senior political columnist and editorial director of National Journal, Ron Fournier said if President Barack Obama is wrong that Iran will live up to its side of any nuclear deal to lift sanctions and a Middle East arms race is the consequence of Obama’s persistent pushing of our Arab allies, “he would go down as one of the worst presidents in our nation’s history.”
Fournier said, “He is on a razor’s edge here trying to build his legacy on a deal that might avert war with Iran, but this could easily tip the other way where the Saudis and their allies see that the United States is giving too much to Iran, emboldening Iran by taking away the sanctions, possibly allow Iran to rush to nuclear weapons, which could create an arms race, would be a horrible legacy for the president. He would go down as one of the worst presidents in our nation’s history if this goes as bad as it possibly could. Like I said, he is on a razor’s edge. It could work out well if we get a legitimate deal, but if it doesn’t we are in a lot of trouble.”
He added, “I certainly understand why people are concerned about what he has done so far. He certainly doesn’t have a great track record of being a great negotiator or being very honest and transparent with the American public—two things that are going to be important here in the next few months.”
