Stephanopoulos: Clinton Donors Hoped Money Would ‘Lead to Something’

ABC’s “This Week” anchor George Stephanopoulos said that while, “there’s no evidence of any direct action,” “everybody also knows” that Clinton donors had “a hope that that’s going to lead to something” and that large donations lead to “access, and the influence that comes with access. And that’s got to shape the thinking of politicians” on the April 28, 2015 broadcast of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.”

Stephanopoulos stated, [relevant portion begins at 6:35] that while “there’s no evidence of any direct action taken on behalf of the donors. But everybody also knows when those donors give that money, and President Clinton or someone, they get a picture with him, that that — there’s a hope that that’s going to lead to something, and that’s what you have to be careful of.”

He added, in a discussion on Clinton’s massive amounts of planned fundraising, “Even if you don’t get an action, what you get is access, and the influence that comes with access. And that’s got to shape the thinking of politicians.  I think that’s what opened issues about it.”
