Peter King: Rand Not a Republican, ‘Totally Unqualified to Be Commander-in-Chief’

Thursday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” Rep. Peter King (R-NY) discussed presidential candidate Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who said hawks in the Republican party created ISIS, and suggested Paul run as a Democrat and he is “totally unqualified to be commander-in-chief.”

King said, “I think Rand Paul should be a leading contender for the Democratic nomination for president. This is the classic, liberal, left wing, anti-Bush, anti-Republican type of propaganda spewed over the years. Rand Paul does not belong in the Republican party when he carries that message. You can have honest differences of what should be done in Iraq or Syria. To say it was Republican or Republican policies, Lindsey Graham or John McCain that caused the growth in ISIS—that’s totally untrue. The fact is ISIS was basically destroyed by end of 2008. Rand Paul should know that. Why he’s playing this game—whether NSA or whether it’s ISIS or whatever. He’s an isolationist. He belongs back in the 1930s with the Charles Lindbergh types. He belongs with civil liberties people on the left that oppose strong security measures. For him to misread ISIS shows me he’s totally unqualified to be commander-in-chief.”
