Santorum: Illegal Immigrants ‘Obviously Are Coming with a Bad Intent’

Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA), a candidate for the GOP Republican nomination, discussed Donald Trump’s comments about Mexico sending its criminals to the Untied States and said Trump’s comments do highlight that “people who are coming illegally obviously are coming with a bad intent” of breaking U.S. immigration law.

“My reaction is I certainly wouldn’t have said those things,” Santorum said. “I don’t agree with his comments obviously. The vast majority of people coming legally into this country from Mexico and other places are people who want to do the right thing. People who are coming illegally obviously are coming with a bad intent. Let’s be honest. They are coming with clear intent of breaking the law. I don’t think we should sugar coat that But that doesn’t mean everybody who is coming across is a rapist or murderer or anything else, obviously. But they are breaking the law. Donald points to very important thing. Which is we have serious problem, illegal immigration in this country that is undermining American workers. We have 12 million illegal immigrants in this country, that are flattening out wages, lowering the standard of living for people who are here legally.”
