State Dept: Russia Isn’t An Existential Threat to the US

State Department Spokesman Mark Toner said that Secretary of State John Kerry does not believe Russia is an existential threat to the US at Friday’s press briefing.

Toner declared, “The secretary doesn’t agree with the assessment that Russia is an existential threat to the United States.”

The comments come as Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman nominee Gen. Joseph Dunford Jr. said, “Russia represents the greatest threat to our national security.” In addition to stating, “if you want to talk about a nation that could pose an existential threat to the United States, I’d have to point to Russia” and described their behavior as “nothing short of alarming.”
