Obama Army Chief of Staff Nominee Lists Russia, Iran as Greatest Threats To US

Tuesday at the Senate Armed Services Committee’s Army Chief of Staff confirmation hearing, President Barack Obama’s nominee U.S. Army Gen. Mark Milley said Russia is the greatest threat to the United States.

Milley said, “I would have to say Russia. Let me explain why. Russia is the only country on earth that contains the nuclear capability to destroy the United States. So it is an existential threat to the Untied States.”

He continued, “The activity of Russia since 2008 has been very very aggressive. They attacked and invaded Georgia. They seized Crimea. They attacked into the Ukraine. So I would put Russia from a military perspective as the number one threat to the U.S.”

He added, “I would also add China, North Korea and ISIS along with Iran.”
