Maher: I ‘Get’ Trump, He Shows People Don’t Want Someone to ‘Bend’ to ‘Bullsh*t’

On Friday, HBO’s “Real Time” host Bill Maher argued that GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s lead in Iowa shows “even the Evangelicals want to be called on their sh*t,” and said of Trump, “I don’t agree with him on a lot, but I kind of get him.”

Maher commented on Trump’s poll numbers in Iowa, and how other candidates from the New York/New Jersey area, including Trump usually don’t perceived to be candidates who can do well in Iowa. He argued, that Trump’s current lead in Iowa shows, “even the Evangelicals want to be called on their sh*t. They are desperate to have somebody lead them, somebody say, ‘You know what? I just don’t bend to your bullshit.’ And Donald Trump, I got to say, I don’t agree with him on a lot, but I kind of get him. We’ve kind of been doing the same thing.”

He later added, “Americans know they’re full of sh*t. … They’re so tired of politicians saying to them, ‘If we only had a government as good as the people.’ They know they’re not good. They know they’re not bright. And they know they don’t know anything.”
