Report: University of Illinois Fires Football Coach One Week Before Season

ESPN reported during Friday’s “College Football Live” that University of Illinois has fired head football coach Tim Beckman just one week before the season opener with Kent State, with University of Illinois Director of Athletics Mike Thomas citing preliminary results of an external review into allegations involving the program.

Beckman was accused by former player Simon Cvijanovic in May to have abused players and pushed players to play through injuries, which Cvijanovic tweeted out that once Beckman was fired, more stories like his would come out.

Assistant coach Bill Cubit will fill in as interim head coach for the 2015 season.
