Friday on Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show,” while discussing media reports that the Pakistan-born wife of Syed Farook, Tashfeen Malik, had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) before the pair killed 14 people in San Bernardino, CA, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) said, “It makes you realize how really inadequate the vetting system is.”
When asked how the wife could have passed a DHS counter-terrorism vetting process, King said, “Well the fact that they had so much information on her compared to the Syrian refugees—it makes you realize how really inadequate the vetting system is. I mean, here is a person who they had all the time to investigate her. Apparently they knew where she was from, who she was and still she was able to pass a vetting test. So you can imagine what it’s like with Syrian refugees coming in when we don’t know who they are, where they are coming from or what they have been up to. So I would say it shows the danger of refugees and immigrants from those countries. Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Yemen, I mean these are—again I’m not saying they should all be kept out but there should be extra stringent tests and it should be really difficult for them to get into the country in view of they are coming from a country that is just overflowing with terrorism.”
