ESPN’s Will Cain: Legalize Performance-Enhancing Drugs in Professional Sports

In a discussion Tuesday about Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning human-growth hormone (HGH) allegations on ESPN’s “First Take,” former political analyst for CNN and The Blaze now ESPN contributor Will Cain proposed that professional sports like football legalize the usage of  or other similar performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs).

Cain likened PED usage to the war on drugs, saying if you cannot keep them out of the sport anyway, “might ask yourself if these drugs are really that detrimental.”

“This is football and what matters is brute strength. It’s men imposing their will on each other, and I’m sorry, these drugs aid that and kind of come endemic to that,” Cain explained.

He also added, “I am one, and I think some people share this, we ought to just be legalizing things like HGH, allow it to be in professional sports. Mark Cuban has funded a study, ESPN reported on this about the University of Michigan, looking at the health benefits of HGH just like the war on drugs, for example, by the way, any rule you have that is fundamentally flawed and fails, you’re failing in the war on drugs. You’re failing to keep PED’s out of professional sports. You might ask yourself if there’s a different tack to take. Ask yourself is these drugs are really that detrimental. This is one where we can’t keep up.”
