Cruz: Trump ‘Not Much of a Dealmaker’ If He Didn’t Realize NYT Is ‘Enemy,’ ‘Obvious Inference’ He Backtracked

Texas Senator and Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz argued that fellow candidate Donald Trump is “not much of a dealmaker if you don’t understand the New York Times is our enemy” and that Trump’s refusal to give the Times permission release its audio of him discussing immigration with them raises the obvious inference that he told the New York Times…that he doesn’t believe what he’s saying on immigration” on Tuesday’s “Sean Hannity Show.”

Cruz said, “Sean, it’s not surprising that he [Trump] tells you on your show, ‘Yes, I intend to build the wall.’ We’ve seen Washington dealmakers who will talk a good game when they think a conservative is listening. The New York Times has an audio tape, and the Times has said they’ll hand over the tape, but it was off the record, so they need Donald’s permission. So, yesterday I called on him. There are one of two scenarios, either he didn’t say what’s being reported…if he didn’t say that, then Donald Trump should call on them to release the tape because it will prove his innocence. On the other hand if he did say it…then the voters deserve to know, and they deserve to know before Election Day. So it’s all fine and good that he says on your show it’s not true, he could have simply said, ‘Yes, New York Times, release the tape.’ … But he’s not doing that, which raises the obvious inference that he told the New York Times exactly what was reported, that he doesn’t believe what he’s saying on immigration.”

He added, that the NYT is full of “hardcore left-wing Democrats.” And anyone who failed to understand this and realize they wouldn’t hold to any commitment to keep any damaging information off the record is “not much of a dealmaker if you don’t understand the New York Times is our enemy.” Cruz continued that Trump was probably surprised by the NYT’s actions because agrees with them most of the time has been “a liberal New York Democrat his whole life.”

Cruz also stated, “[N]obody who’s genuinely pro-life would passionately defend Planned Parenthood the way Donald has done at debate after debate after debate.” He added that maybe Trump won’t release his tax returns because they would reveal donations to Planned Parenthood.
