A teenager in Ohio got quite the surprise on prom day this weekend, says a Fox 8 report.

Elyria High School senior Elna Wright, 17, has a rare progressive disorder called Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia. She was originally planning on going to prom with her boyfriend, but he passed away in the fall of last year.

“They had always planned to go to prom together. They’ve been friends for a really long time, so it’s a bitter sweet moment,” her mother, Ingrid Wright, told reporters. “No one asked her to the prom, and I can understand why. It might be a tough position.”

Wright’s family took to social media to see if the big Cleveland sports fan could perhaps find a date.

Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Cameron Erving volunteered to take her. The 6-foot-5, 313-pound lineman picked Wright up in a limo bus on Saturday, posed for pictures and escorted her to the prom.

Although nonverbal, the bright smile on Elna’s face the whole time said enough to Erving.

“I just wanted to come here for her,” he told Fox 8. “Just being able to make her smile, that’s the biggest thing. Everybody deserves happiness, so anything I can do to make this night as special as possible.”

Wright, who was crowned homecoming queen last fall, will graduate next month. Her parents wanted to make this year the best year ever for her.

“She’s on top of the world right now,” Ebony Wright, her dad, said. “This means everything.”
