Cowherd: Baylor Cover-Up a Result of Being a College Power in a Small City

On Thursday’s broadcast of “The Herd” on Fox Sports 1, host Colin Cowherd reacted to Baylor University firing head football coach Art Briles and demoting school President Ken Starr after a report about how the school handled sexual assault allegations against football players.

According to Cowherd, because Baylor is located in Waco, TX, a city with a population of 129,030 according to the U.S. Census Bureau, but deemed a “small town” by Cowherd, the school was able to cover up allegations that would hurt the team, as opposed to scandals at schools big cities where he said are too many “eyeballs.”

“Football is too big a deal in some towns. You ever notice where the stuff happens in college football? Ohio State is a pretty big town, Columbus. That got out. They couldn’t hide that tattoo story. USC, Reggie Bush, Los Angeles, that got out. Nevin Shapiro, Miami, Coral Gables, that got out. Why? Those are big cities, aggressive media. The media isn’t intimidated by the local football coach. Where do we find stories get suppressed? Penn State, [Jerry] Sandusky, Florida State, cops covering up Jameis Winston, Tallahasse, P.D., Waco, Texas. Little old Waco, Texas,” Cowherd said.
