BYU Ran a Fake Punt Out of Its Own End Zone and Failed Miserably

Thursday night, BYU faced a 4th-and-19 from its own five-yard line with 10:54 left in the second quarter and trailing by only four points to Boise State, and did the unthinkable.

The Cougars decided to attempt a fake punt.

Punter Jonny Linehan took the snap and ran with the ball to try to pick up 19 yards. Well, Linehan barely got out of his own end zone before being tackled for a turnover on downs.

The play call ended up not affecting the Cougars because the Broncos were hit with an unsportsmanlike penalty on the ensuing drive and then missed a field goal after going three-and-out.

Boise State went on to win the game 28-27.
