A Mesa, AZ woman thought she was texting her grandson and his girlfriend about Thanksgiving plans, but when she found out she had invited a complete stranger to Thanksgiving, she did not revoke the invitation, ABC 15 reports.
Jamal Hinton, 17, was sitting in class at Desert Vista High School when he got a random message in a group chat about Thanksgiving.
He asked who the text was from, and the response was, “It’s your grandma.”
Hinton thought his grandmother may have gotten a new number, but he asked the texter to send a picture just to make sure.
When the picture came in, he realized it was not his grandmother. He responded with a photo of himself and asked for her to save him a plate.
She said she would because “that’s what grandmas do….feed everyone.”
Hinton posted screenshots of the texts to Twitter, and the tweet quickly made it around all of social media.

The screenshots included the woman’s phone number, so other people also asked her for a plate.
She has reportedly since changed her number, but her actual grandson shared the new number with Hinton so they could keep in touch. Hinton said the family will text him the address and save him a plate.
“I thought, ‘Wow, this lady is really nice,'” he told ABC 15. “Any other person would probably blow me off, and be like, ‘No, never text my number again,’ but she was actually pretty nice and sweet about it.”
